Francesca Mazza joins DIS as Incoming Secretary General

Karl-Heinz Böckstiegel, President of the German Arbitration Institution DIS, announced that Francesca Mazza will join DIS as incoming Secretary General in October 2012. The current Secretary General, Jens Bredow, will retire from his position at the end of 2013.

Francesca joins DIS from the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris, where she recently supervised the rules revision process and was responsible for co-drafting the new 2012 ICC Rules of Arbitration. In her function as leader of one of the case management teams of the Court, she has supervised hundreds of arbitration proceedings.

“We’re thrilled to bring Francesca on board. DIS made great strides these past years under the leadership of Jens Bredow. I know Francesca will build on its existing strengths and be an excellent leader,” said Karl-Heinz Böckstiegel. “Her cross-cultural background and experience and her passion for arbitration makes her the perfect choice for the role and for DIS.”

“I’m delighted to join DIS. DIS is a modern, forward-thinking and flexible institution with a great network. It has all the ingredients of a dynamic arbitration institution and I am excited to have been elected as its future leader.” said Mazza.

Francesca is an Italian national who read law in three different countries, is qualified as Rechtsanwältin in Germany and holds a PhD from the University of Heidelberg.
